Watch out for the Minority Veto in your Taproom

We've all been there. You head to the local taproom to hang out with friends and enjoy a few beers. Except, one of your friends is hungry, and there's no food in the taproom.

Enter the Minority Veto.

The rule goes like this: A party of five people will leave if one person is hungry and the taproom doesn't have any food.

So, if you don't offer food, you won't just lose that one hungry person, you'll lose them all.

How to overcome the Minority Veto? Here are some suggestions.

Offer pre-packaged foods

Use the Starbucks model and offer pre-packaged foods. Pre-made sandwiches, pretzels or hot dogs are an easy option to keep that hungry guest (and their four thirsty friends) at your taproom.

Bring in a food truck

If done right, they should pay you rent to get access to your customers. And they'll provide the food to keep guests around for another beer.

Pickle Stuff...

If you have no kitchen, and don't want to be bothered with the headaches of running one, consider pickled foods. People love them, they're easy, and creative food options for that hungry patron!

Get a Kids menu...

Sometimes the "Minority Veto" can come from the kids. I've got kids, maybe you do as well, and we know there is nothing worse than a hungry, cranky kid.

If you have a kids' menu, let people know about it. This will keep the kids happy, and keep mom and dad around to enjoy a pint.  And we hear Dino Nuggets are tasty for the whole family!
